In his seven decades as an artist, Richard Artschwager (b. 1923; d. 2013) constructed a unique path for the art of his time. Decidedly focused on rigorously understanding space and the daily objects that occupy and structure it, Artschwager managed to express himself with multiple materials at a halfway point between painting and sculpture, meanwhile critically setting himself apart from the Minimalist works that dominated the art scene of the 1960s and 1970s.
